The third installment of Adrey Boreyko’s recordings of the music of Shostakovich with the RSO Stuttgart and Andrey Boreyko. Nuanced interpretations of a pair of Shostakovich’s more 'unusual' symphonies. Last year, Andrey Boreyko's recording of Shostakovich's Symphonies Nos. 9 and 15 was released to world-wide acclaim - even though recordings of these works are no rarity.

However, it was Boreyko's intense, highly emotional yet carefully controlled interpretations that reveal Shostakovich at his most profound. In the First Symphony, a fascinating piece of orchestral chamber music, the young composer succeeds as a result of his extraordinary clarity and unfussy design. Even in the many different emotional worlds that Shostakovich inhabited, the basic melancholy of the Sixth Symphony is a unique entry in the composer's oeuvre. In other words, the outstanding quality of the Shostakovich recordings by Andrey Boreyko and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra is again confirmed by this latest release.
