François-Xavier Roth began his recordings of the tone poems of Richard Strauss in the spring of 2013 on a serious note with 'Ein Heldenleben' and 'Death and Transfiguration'. Now the second instalment appears. It shows once again that these works benefit from Roth's powerful interpretations. And also the orchestral color of these scores shows the sensitivity of the orchestra from Freiburg in the best possible light. It has been a long times since a systematic recording of Strauss' tone poems have been offered on the CD market, and with the musical and artistic level evident in these recordings, it may be possible to speak of a generation of reference recordings.
