Váša Příhoda’s recording of the Dvořák Violin Concerto is available here for the first time. One of the greatest violinists of the 20th century in performances of major works for the violin. Remarkable remastering of the original SWR tapes.

Váša Příhoda was one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Toscanini, who heard Příhoda in Italy after the First World War, called him ‘the Paganini of our time’. Thanks to his intercession, Příhoda was able to play many concerts in Italy and the USA. Příhoda uniquely combined superb musicianship with a thrilling technique – even though some of his interpretations of major works might be deemed idiosyncratic.

As a Czech, it isn't surprising that Příhoda felt a strong attachment to Dvořák. When the celebrated violinist returned in 1956 to Prague (where he had been previously barred from playing), he performed Dvořák’s Violin Concerto. The recording of this concerto took place in the same year and is now available on this album for the first time.
